Offered a job in Singapore, is the higher pay worth leaving family in JB?

I'm from JB and got a job offer in Singapore paying almost double in SGD. But it means daily commute through the causeway jam or renting there. I have aging parents in JB. Is it really worth it? Anyone done this?

I did the JB-Singapore commute for three years. The money is real and it helped me support my family and save fast, thanks to the exchange rate. But be honest with yourself about the toll: the causeway jam is exhausting, and doing it daily for years wears you down physically and mentally. What made it worth it for me was living in JB near my parents, so I could still have dinner with them most nights. If your parents need you around, commuting beats renting in SG. Consider motorbike or the KTM shuttle to skip car jams. Try it, but set a target, save aggressively while you're young and reassess after a year or two. Don't sacrifice your health forever just for pay.

From my experience commuting JB to Singapore, the SGD pay is genuinely life-changing with the exchange rate, but the daily causeway grind is no joke, you might wake at 4-5am to beat the jam and reach home late. Many do it for years though. The maths usually works out well if you live in JB and earn in SGD. Options: daily commute (cheapest living but brutal fatigue), or rent a room in SG (comfortable but eats into the SGD advantage). Since your parents are aging and in JB, commuting lets you stay close to them, which is priceless. Try it for a contract period first before deciding long term. Factor in transport passes, CPF (you don't get it as a work pass holder usually), and your own health.
