I resigned and my company suddenly counteroffer RM1000 more than the new company. Now I dont know whether to stay or go. New place also further from home. Anyone accepted counteroffer before, how it turned out?

I accepted a counteroffer once and regret until today. They matched my gaji but the trust already broken, boss slowly sidelined me and I was first on the retrench list next year. HR remembers you as the one who almost left. Also ask yourself, if you were worth this much, why they only pay you now after you threaten to leave? Usually people resign not just for money, got other reasons like no growth, bad management. The extra RM1000 doesnt fix those. My honest advice, if you already decided to go, go. Counteroffer is just them buying time to find your replacement. Statistically most people who accept counteroffer leave within a year anyway.

Not always bad lah, depends why you wanted to leave. If it was purely money and you actually like the job, team, and the new place got a longer commute, then staying can make sense. But be realistic, that RM1000 might just eat into your next increment. I stayed on counteroffer and it was ok because my issue was underpayment only, and I made sure to get the raise confirmed in writing and got a promotion promise fulfilled within 6 months.

Whatever you decide, dont burn the new company by ghosting them last minute. Malaysia industry very small, everyone knows everyone. If you reject after accepting their offer, at least tell them properly. You may cross paths again.

Think about the commute seriously. RM1000 sounds nice but if the new place adds 1.5 hours daily in KL jam plus toll and petrol, you are actually paying to work there with your time and sanity. Calculate the real net gain. Sometimes staying nearer home is worth more than the raise.
