Best way to order at mamak without getting the wrong food every time

Whenever I go mamak with friends, the order always kacau, wrong drinks, missing roti, kurang pedas jadi extra pedas. Is there a proper way to order so the abang gets it right? Feel malu to keep correcting.

Haha the classic mamak struggle. What works for my gang: one 'captain' collects everyone's order and relays it in one clean go, grouped by drinks then food. Use the standard terms, teh o ais limau, milo dinosaur, nasi goreng kampung, and always add the 'special requests' clearly like 'tak nak pedas' or 'kurang manis'. If it's a big table, ordering in two rounds is fine, don't dump 15 items at once. Also when the abang repeats your order, listen and confirm, that's your chance to catch mistakes. And honestly, correcting politely is normal at mamak, nobody judges. Become a regular and they'll even know your usual before you sit down.

From my experience the mamak order chaos usually happens because everyone shouts at once. The trick is appoint one person to order for the whole table, and order in a logical flow: all drinks first, then all food, clearly by seat. Learn the lingo, it genuinely helps: 'teh ais satu, kurang manis', 'roti telur dua', 'maggi goreng satu, jangan pedas'. Say it slow and let the abang repeat back. For big groups, some regulars even jot on a napkin and hand it over. And tip: go to the same mamak often, once they recognise you the orders magically get accurate. Don't feel malu to confirm, better than eating the wrong thing.
