PTPTN loan RM32k, should I settle lump sum for discount or slow ansuran?

Fresh grad working now, PTPTN balance around RM32k. Sometimes govt announce discount for full settlement. Worth saving up to lump sum settle, or just pay minimum monthly and use the money elsewhere? No interest right?

PTPTN charges a low 1% "upah urus" (admin/ujrah), not conventional interest, so the cost of holding it is very low compared to other debt. Strategy that worked for me: I paid the minimum monthly consistently (this keeps you in good standing and off the travel-ban/blacklist list), while I built my emergency fund and cleared higher-cost debt first (credit card, PTPTN is the cheapest debt you will ever have). THEN when a full-settlement discount was announced (they periodically offer like 10-15% off for lump sum, or discount for consistent auto-debit), I settled. Best of both worlds. Dont rush to lump sum settle if it leaves you with zero savings, but do grab a settlement discount when your finances allow. Set up salary auto-deduction (Biro Angkasa) so you never miss and sometimes get extra rebate.

Whatever you do, DONT ignore it. Defaulters get blacklisted and can be barred from leaving the country, plus it hurts your CCRIS/credit score when you apply housing loan later. Even RM100/month consistent keeps you clean. Learned this when my friend nearly couldnt fly for his honeymoon.

If you graduated with first class honours, check if your loan was converted to a scholarship (biasiswa) - some years PTPTN did that for first class grads, meaning you owe nothing! Verify your status on the PTPTN portal before you even plan repayment. Free money if you qualify.
