Started at your exact age, here is what I wish someone told me. Step 1, before investing anything, build an emergency fund of 3-6 months expenses in a normal savings or a money market fund you can withdraw fast. Investing without a safety net means you sell at the worst time when emergency hits. Step 2, sort your high interest debt (credit card) first, no investment beats paying off 18% card interest. Step 3, THEN start simple: for low risk, ASB/ASN or EPF voluntary top up (tax relief bonus). For growth, a low cost index fund or ETF tracking global or US markets via a platform like a local robo-advisor or brokerage. Start small and consistent, RM200-300 monthly, dollar cost averaging. Avoid crypto and hot tips until you understand risk, and NEVER trust anyone promising guaranteed high returns, that is 100% scam. Boring and consistent beats exciting and broke. Time in market beats timing the market at your age, you have decades of compounding ahead.

Scam awareness is the most important skill first. If it promises fixed 10-20% monthly, forget dividend, "syariah compliant" fake certs, or your friend suddenly become financial guru pushing you to join, RUN. So many Malaysians lost money to these Ponzi and forex robot scams. Legit returns are boring single digits mostly. Verify any platform is licensed by SC (Securities Commission) or BNM before putting a single sen.

Invest in your own skills too at 24, that is the highest ROI. A course or cert that bumps your gaji from RM3200 to RM4500 gives you way more investable money than optimising a small portfolio. Grow your income AND invest the surplus. Best combo when young.

Dont underestimate EPF voluntary top up. It gives near guaranteed 5-6% tax free plus you get income tax relief. For a beginner who wants low risk and set-and-forget, it is honestly hard to beat. I put a chunk there and the rest into a global ETF for growth. Two buckets, simple, no drama.
