What's it like going through multiple interview rounds for a GLC job in Malaysia

I got shortlisted for a position at a big GLC and they told me there are four rounds including a panel interview and an assessment. Coming from private sector this feels very different and slow. Anyone been through the GLC hiring process, what should I expect?

I joined a GLC in 2020 after going through their process, and yes it is slower and more formal than private sector, prepare for that mentally. Expect a HR screening, a technical or user interview, then a panel of 3-5 senior people asking both technical and behavioural questions, and sometimes a written assessment or presentation. The panel loves questions about integrity, teamwork and how you handle pressure, and they genuinely value how you present yourself professionally, so dress formal, bring printed copies of your cert and IC, and be patient because the gap between rounds can be weeks due to approval layers. My whole process took almost three months from application to offer letter, so keep your current job and don't burn bridges while waiting.

Prepare for the classic questions like why do you want to serve here and how do you handle integrity issues. GLCs care a lot about values and reputation. Also they may ask about your salary expectation early, so know the grade structure because GLC pay follows fixed grades, not much room to negotiate.

Bring your original certs and a lot of patience. The panel interview can feel intimidating with everyone staring at you, but they're mostly checking if you're humble and a team player, not trying to trap you. Answer honestly and give real examples.

The waiting is the hardest part. Private sector can offer you in a week, GLC takes months because everything needs committee approval. Don't reject other offers hoping for the GLC, keep all options open until you get the physical offer letter.
