Relax, expired road tax is very common and renewing is straightforward. If it's expired less than a certain period and no other issues, you can usually still renew online via MyEG or the JPJ portal, they'll just charge from the expiry, and you need valid insurance first (insurance must be active before you can renew road tax). If it's been long or there's a block, you may need to go to a JPJ counter or Pos Malaysia. The bigger risk isn't a renewal penalty, it's that driving with expired road tax is an offence and if JPJ or police stop you, you can be summoned, and driving without valid road tax often means your insurance may not cover you in an accident, which is the scary part. So renew ASAP: buy/renew insurance, then renew road tax online, print or get the sticker. Stop driving until it's sorted if you can. Confirm current rules on the official JPJ or MyEG site as procedures update.

Main thing bro, jangan drive until you renew, because if accident happen with expired road tax and lapsed insurance, you basically uncovered and can be liable for everything. My colleague langgar someone during his lapse period, nightmare. Renew online today, it's literally 15 minutes. Check also you takda outstanding saman on the car, because unpaid summons can block your road tax renewal, settle those first on the JPJ/PDRM portal.

I let mine lapse 6 months once. Renewed on MyEG no drama, they didn't charge extra penalty for the road tax itself, I just paid the normal amount and delivery for the sticker. But my insurance had also lapsed so I had to sort that first, took 10 minutes online. The real lesson: set a calendar reminder or use the auto-renew, senang lupa. Also if your car is due for inspection (Puspakom) for any reason, settle that too or renewal can be blocked.
