Boss micromanage everything until I burnout, how to cope?

My manager check every email I send, question every decision, cc her boss when I make small mistake. I dread going work every day already. Cannot resign yet because need the gaji. How you all survive a toxic micromanaging boss?

Been there, nearly quit without a backup plan which would have been dumb. What actually helped me survive while job hunting: over-communicate BEFORE she asks. I started sending short daily updates and flagging issues early, so she felt in control and slowly backed off. Micromanagers usually act from anxiety, not evil. Document everything also, keep a folder of your emails and decisions, so when she cc her boss you have receipts. But real talk, if the environment is genuinely toxic, no coping mechanism fixes a bad manager, it only buys you time. Use that time to quietly apply elsewhere. I left after 4 months and my health, sleep, everything improved. Dont let one bad boss make you think all jobs are like this.

If got HR that is actually functional, you can raise it, but manage expectation, most Malaysian HR protect the company and the manager, not you. I tried and it backfired. Better spend your energy on upskilling and interviewing. The best revenge is resigning to a better place with higher gaji.

Sometimes you can have one honest but respectful conversation. I told my boss calmly "I work best when I have room to own my tasks, can we try me updating you twice a week instead of daily?" Some bosses genuinely dont realise they are suffocating you. Worth one try before deciding to leave. If she reacts badly, then you got your answer.

Protect your mental health first. I set hard boundaries, no replying work messages after 7pm and on weekends. First she was not happy but I held firm and framed it as "so I can be fresh and productive". Also I stopped taking her behaviour personally, she does it to everyone, it is her problem not your competence. Detach emotionally, do your work, collect gaji, plan exit.
