First job interview at a GLC in KL, do I need to wear full suit and tie or smart casual can already?

Fresh grad here, got called for interview at a GLC around KLCC area for an executive position. It's my first ever proper interview and I'm blur about the dress code. KL weather so hot, walking from LRT already sweat like mad. Do they really expect full blazer and tie, or will I look overdressed? Anyone been through this before can share your experience?

I've sat on interview panels at two GLCs and honestly the dress code matters less than people think, but you still want to signal you took it seriously. For a guy, long-sleeve shirt tucked in, dark slacks, leather shoes and a plain tie is the safe standard, blazer optional if you have one. What actually gets remembered is whether your shirt is ironed and your shoes are not the same sneakers you wore to mamak last night. The sweat problem is real, so I always tell candidates to come 15 minutes early, sit in the aircon lobby and cool down before going up. Bring a small pack of tissue and wipe your face in the toilet before they call you, first impression is everything.

Bro don't overthink, smart casual is fine for most GLC exec roles nowadays. I went for my Petronas-linked interview in just a collared shirt and slacks, no tie, and got the offer. Suit and tie in KL heat you will look like you're melting by the time you reach the office. As long as you look neat and not like you just rolled out of bed, you're good.

Just wear the tie lah, better to be slightly overdressed than under. You can always loosen it once you sit down and the mood is relaxed. I regretted going too casual to my first interview, everyone else had blazers and I felt like the odd one out the whole time. That awkward feeling actually threw off my confidence during the Q&A.

My honest take, they judge your answers 90 percent and your clothes 10 percent. I've seen a guy in full three-piece suit fumble every question and a girl in simple baju kurung nail it and get hired. So put on something decent, iron it properly, then spend your remaining prep time researching the company's latest annual report instead of stressing over the tie. Nobody ever got rejected for not wearing a blazer.

Depends on the GLC actually. Banking side GLCs like the ones under Khazanah tend to be more formal, so tie is expected. But if it's more of a tech or ops role, they're relaxed. Safest to just call the HR person who scheduled you and ask directly, no shame in that. They will actually appreciate that you checked instead of assuming.

For ladies I'd say blouse with covered shoulders, slacks or a knee-length skirt, and closed-toe shoes. Skip the heavy makeup and loud perfume, the room is small and aircon so everyone will smell it. Keep a blazer in your bag and only put it on if you see the receptionist and staff are all formal. I've noticed panels respond well to candidates who look put-together but not trying too hard.
