How to renew Malaysian passport fast, online or walk in imigresen?

My passport expiring soon, got a trip in 6 weeks. Panic sikit. Can I renew fully online now or still must go imigresen? How long it takes and any tips to avoid the long queue?

You can renew via the MyOnline Passport app / Imigresen portal - do the application and payment online, then you either collect at the chosen imigresen office or opt for postage delivery to your home (extra fee). This is way faster than walking in blind. Adult passport RM200 for 5 years. If you renew online and pick a less busy branch (avoid the main Putrajaya/major ones, go smaller district offices), collection is quick, sometimes same day or next day. 6 weeks is plenty of time, no need panic. Bring your old passport and IC when you collect. Tip: do the photo requirement properly (the app has specs) so tak kena reject. Also check your NRD/JPN records are updated if you changed name/address.

Important - many countries need at least 6 months validity on your passport to enter. So even if your passport not fully expired, if it has less than 6 months left, renew now. Check your destination country rule before you fly, dont kena turned back at airport.

Some UTC (Urban Transformation Centre) and even certain post offices/consulate counters do passport renewal with shorter queue and longer hours (evening/weekend). Check the UTC near you. I renewed at UTC Sentul in like 1 hour on a Saturday, damn smooth compared to the main office horror stories.
