I am seeing someone new, we been on few dates. I am the guy and I always pay, but now wondering if I should suggest split. Dont want to look stingy but also dont want to set wrong expectation. What is normal now in Malaysia dating scene?

Married now, but dated plenty, here is my honest take. In Malaysia there is still a cultural lean towards the guy paying especially early on, and many appreciate the gesture, but the scene HAS shifted, plenty of independent women prefer to split or at least take turns, and see insisting on always paying as either old fashioned or creating an imbalance. What matters most is reading YOUR person and communicating, not following a rigid rule. What worked for me: I offered to pay the first date or two as a gesture (no big deal, sets a warm tone), then naturally let it become shared, sometimes she pays, sometimes I do, or we alternate ("I got this one, you get the next"). The alternating approach is elegant because it implies more dates AND shares the load. If she always lets you pay and never offers, that tells you something about her expectations, and vice versa. The stinginess worry is overblown, generosity is about attitude not always footing every bill. A partnership mindset from early on is healthier than a provider/receiver dynamic that can breed resentment. Just talk about it lightly if unsure, mature people appreciate the honesty.

Watch out for the person who ALWAYS lets you pay and never even reaches for the wallet, that early pattern often continues into the relationship. It is less about the money and more about the mindset of partnership vs entitlement. Money habits reveal character. Not saying dump anyone who lets you pay, but notice the pattern over time, it is data about compatibility.
As a woman, I honestly prefer at least offering to split or pay sometimes, it tells me the guy sees me as an equal, not someone to impress or a damsel. If a guy refuses to ever let me contribute, it can feel like he expects something in return, or like he is performing rather than genuine. Let her offer, and accept graciously when she does. Mutual effort is attractive. That said, plenty of women here still expect the guy to pay, so know the person you are with.

The "take turns" method is the best middle ground I found. You pay this date, she gets the next, and so on. It naturally splits the cost over time, feels generous in the moment, and creates a nice back and forth that assumes future dates. Rigid 50/50 on every single bill on a romantic date can feel a bit transactional early on, but taking turns keeps it warm AND fair. Worked great in my relationship.
