A new Myvi or Axia is popular for very good reasons: strong resale value, cheap and everywhere-available parts, low fuel consumption, and warranty so no surprise repair bills for the first few years. The downside is you take a bigger loan and eat the depreciation of a brand new car. A used car means a smaller loan or cash, but you inherit someone else's wear, unknown accident history, and repair costs can bite anytime with no warranty. For a first car on a fresh grad budget, my honest lean is: a new Axia or a nearly-new Myvi is often the smarter buy in Malaysia specifically, because these two hold their value remarkably well and are dirt cheap to maintain, so the new car penalty is much smaller than with fancier brands. If you go used, buy a 2 to 3 year old Myvi or Axia, letting the first owner absorb the steepest depreciation, and always get an independent mechanic to inspect it before paying, never trust the seller's word. Whatever you pick, keep the total car cost, loan plus petrol plus insurance plus roadtax plus maintenance, under about 15 to 20 percent of your take-home, or the car will own you instead.
